First off, it is recommended that you watch this film in 3D to benefit from the dizzying special effects. The story revolves around Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) as a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission. She is joined by the experienced astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). The silent peace of space is broken when, during what should be a routine spacewalk, their space shuttle is destroyed, leaving them tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into space.
As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. This is a little like the Tom Hanks classic ‘Castaway’ in space. Plaudits must go to the amazing visual effects design from Tim Webber, cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki and production design by Andy Nicholson.
