iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S is effectively an improved version of an iPhone 5. Compared to the iPhone 5, the 5S offers a choice in colour ranging from gold, silver or black. It also comes with a different, sleeker home button.

When you set it up, you are given an option to use the fingerprint identity sensor. This time-saving security feature is a USP of the iPhone 5S allowing, when on the lock screen, one to put their finger on the home button and to use their own fingerprint to unlock the phone. If, for some reason, you do not wish to use the fingerprint sensor  on an occasion, there is also a code you can enter, like all other iPhones. The iPhone 5S has an aluminium case and glass screen, giving it a classy look and feel. Dimensions are 124 x 59 x 7.6 mm and the weight is 112g – it feels very light which is a plus. There is a new dual flash which Apple has included to improve the image quality in poor light conditions.

The 5S has a 4in Retina display with 1136×640 resolution at 326ppi which is very high quality and the same spec as the iPhone 5.  The new fingerprint recognition featurecan also be used to make iTunes and App Store purchases.  Performance so far feels very good on the 5S, utilising the new A7 chip which is based on a 64 bit architecture.  The iPhone 5 has the A6 chip which is a single processor.

Battery life is very good on this model compared with its predecessors, with 10 hours of life with high usage.

More to follow as the iPhone 5s is put through its paces.
